They are small, fluffy and they are too cute to be true: kittens can bring of joy and happyness into your everyday live. But raising a kitten or several kittens also brings a lot of responsibility. So, what do you have to consider?

First steps for happy kittens

First of all, it is important that you let the kittens arrive in their new home gently. Give them enough time to explore the setting. Do not invite people for the first few days. The kittens need some time to get used to the new surroundings and may feel disturbed by too many guests.

Make sure of getting rid of anything that could be dangerous for your kitten. Even banal things like rubber bands or garbage bags can be life-threatening for little babycats.
Indoors you should first familiarize your kittens with one room after the other. To see everything at once could be overwhelming  for the little furballs. It’s best to spend a lot of time on the floor with them cuddling. When the kittens are asleep and relaxed, you will have plenty of time to take care of other things.

Equipment

Every basic equipment includes a suitable cat toilet, food and water bowls, as well as toys and a proper scratching tree. Also enough quiet sleeping and retreat places are important for the kittens. After all, the curious bundles of energy must be able to rest undisturbed at some point. If you have a garden, you can prepare a cozy spot where the kittens can relax from romping around hereafter.
Next up, you should introduce your little friends to a fixed feeding place and the cat box. In the beginning it is best to use a open box without a top. Special boxes for kittens should do the trick even easier.

Good nursery made easy

During the first few weeks, kittens should get in touch with various stimuli (such as people, objects, sounds, smells and other creatures) to grow in confidence. Good socialization is essential for all further ambition. Fears and insecurities are the main causes of anxiety and aggression. The best way to teach kittens a healthy self is to play with them. In addition small cat teeth and claws can make already unpleasant scratches or wounds. Therefore, it is important to teach your pets how to handle human skin with care from the very beginning.

So how do you do it? For example, by using a soft toy, a cord or a soft piece of fabric to play a game of hunting and pulling. The moment your little friend touches human skin or clothing with its teeth or claws, the game is interrupted. Design the game in such a way that your darling wins most of the time. As the result the toy gets caught and your kitten has a sense of achievement. This leads to a healthy bite inhibition and promotes self-confidence.

Such exercises are important for the development of your little darling and should be included in the regular game program. But do not exaggerate: Choose short training sessions and let the kittens decide when and what to play. So you can teach your babycat things that match both their talent and character.

Always remember that cats are independent creatures, but with a little motivation you can teach your house tiger a lot of things. Cats don’t react to punishment, only to reward. If you want to make a kitten understand that she has done something well, try positive conditioning. Teach your cat also tricks and games that match his preferences. In this way you strengthen innate talents and have more fun playing.
