Dog type according to FCI

companion and toy dogs

FCI description

Dogs of this group were not bred to fulfill a certain function (hunting, hating, ...), but to be a good companion for humans. They look very different, also character-wise they vary strongly. Many are self-confident, social and lovable. With loving education and enough species-appropriate occupation, you can find here a pleasant and faithful companion in the everyday life, who can adapt mostly well.

Short description

The Chihuahua needs firm training in order to be a loyal and alert dog, that likes to be outside in nature as well as staying at home cuddling on the sofa. He is very confident and bold, and is suitable for people with little space but a lot of time. Although this is a very small breed the Chihuahua is a god and wants to be treated as one. His eyes need a lot of cleaning. Owners should be prepared for one or the other vet bill, as the Chihuahua tends to be ill a lot due to over-breeding.

This information is indicative and adheres to the breed standard. Each animal is an individual and has a personal character, as well as its own needs. Thus, a breed is not a guarantee of certain behaviors, etc.
